Two day Training Course “Quality Assurance of Wiring Accessories – Switches, Plugs and Sockets” on 19-20 August 2008

Introduction 

Switches, three pin plugs and socket outlets are extensively used in the household, industry and work places by common people.  These are used to connect and control 240V supply often involving large quantum of power.  Defective and unsafe switches, three pin plugs and socket outlets can cause electrical accidents, which may even lead to loss of life and property.  These items are mainly manufactured by small scale manufacturers who want to produce quality accessories but are unable to do so for want of technical expertise. The purpose of testing wiring accessories from the customer’s viewpoint is to demonstrate that the product meets the guaranteed specifications. From the manufacturers’ viewpoint the tests provide a check on the design, strength of materials and also serves as a guide for the development of better products. 

ERDA is organising a two-day course to impart knowledge regarding test methods, testing techniques, test equipment calibration etc., in this area.  The course will lay stress on practical aspects. 

Course Content

The course consists of : 

Ø       Evaluation of raw materials used in switches, plugs & socket outlets

Ø       Type testing of wiring accessories including revised standard of plug & lamp holders i.e IS:1293-2005 & IS:1258-2005

Ø       Analysis of common failures of switches, three-pin plugs and socket outlets, lamp holders

Fresh Engineers and those with 1-2 years work experience engaged in testing, purchase, R&D etc., will find the course highly beneficial.

Course Fees 

ERDA Members – Rs. 3500/- per person

Non Members     – Rs. 4000/- per person

Service tax – At prevailing rates. The present rate is 12.36%. 

Participants have to make their own arrangements for accommodation and conveyance.
