Introduction
 
Solar energy can be converted in to electrical energy with help of photovoltaic module. It is broadly categorized as crystalline silicon & thin-film terrestrial photovoltaic module. A variety of solar product are available in the market like solar home lighting system, solar street lighting system & solar lenten. The use of solar products are increasing day by day as street light, home light & lanten. ERDA is involved in the testing of solar photovoltaic modules as per IS & IEC and related products like solar home lighting systems, solar sreet lighting system & solar lenten, solar battery, solar inverters, solar charge controller etc. as per MNRE specifications. These test facilities are accredited by the National Accreditation Board for Testing & Calibration Laboratories (NABL), Government of India.

Automated Computerized Solar Sun Simulator

ERDA has recently commissioned computerized Solar Sun Simulator Class A conforming to IEC: 60904-9 with PV reference module conforming to IEC 60904-2 with I-V characteristic measurement system with software conforming to IEC: 60904-1 capable to test solar panels (PV Module) of size 2m x 1m traceable to NIST (National Institute of Standards and Technology).

The special features of sun simulator :
  - Single flash long pulse duration : 20 – 100ms at 1000W/m2
  - Range of light intensity : 200 - 1100W/m2
  - Measurement duration: < 1 Second.
Following test to be carried out on solar PV panels as per IEC 61646 : 2008, IEC 61215 : 2005, IS 14286 : 2010 & MNRE Specifications. 
  - Maximum power determination.
  - Performance at STC condition.
  - Performance at low irradiation.

Automated Computerized Environmental Chamber

ERDA has recently commissioned computerized Climatic Chamber with automatic temperature & Humidity control with computer interfacing capable for maintaining -40°C to 85°C at 85% RH to test solar panels (PV Module) of size 2m x 1m for Thermal cycling test and Humidity freeze cycle test.

ERDA has recently commissioned computerized Humidity Chamber for maintaining 85°C at 85% RH to test solar panels (PV Module) of size 2m x 1m for Damp Heat test.
