Most of the solar MPPT chargers available commercially could not track the maximum power point for continuously varying solar irradiance – case observed during cloudy weather. During partial shading, MPPT of conventional charger tend to lock to a local MPP, which may not be the optimum MPP. Looking into the above discussed demerits of the conventional solar MPPT chargers, ERDA has developed solar MPPT based charger which can harvest maximum power even for the condition of constantly changing solar light intensity. This lead to harvesting more energy from solar PV panels. This charger maximize energy harvest by locking to the optimum MPP (Maximum Power Point). If partial shading occurs, two or more maximum power points may be present on the power-voltage curve.
